Key Features
-
Natural Algae Controllers: Efficient herbivores that consume nuisance algae, cyanobacteria (red slime), and diatoms. They help keep your saltwater aquarium clean and free of unsightly growth.
-
Reef Safe & Peaceful: Non-aggressive snail species that coexists harmoniously with corals, fish, and other invertebrates. An ideal addition to any reef community as part of your cleanup crew.
-
Optimal Tank Conditions: Thrives in typical reef parameters (72–78°F, pH 8.1–8.4, dKH 8–12, sg 1.023–1.025). Grows up to ~1″; maintain calcium and trace elements for healthy shell growth.
-
Easy Care & Acclimation: Hardy in stable conditions but sensitive to sudden changes. Use slow drip acclimation when introducing to avoid shock. Like all invertebrates, Astrea snails are vulnerable to high nitrate levels and cannot tolerate copper medications. Not a strong climber on glass – flip them upright if found upside-down.
-
Bulk Packs & Live Arrival Guarantee: Available in packs of 10, 25, 50, or 100 to suit any tank size (each snail ~½–1″). Every order includes a detailed acclimation guide. Live arrival is guaranteed – if any arrive DOA, we will promptly refund or replace (no returns needed).
Product Description
Essential Cleanup Crew Member
Astrea Turbo Snails are prized in the marine aquarium hobby for their voracious appetite for algae and their completely reef-safe nature. These small snails have a distinctive pyramid-shaped shell and reach about 1 inch at full size, making them suitable for both nano tanks and large reef systems. They tirelessly graze on nuisance algae, including hair algae, diatoms, and even problem cyanobacteria, effectively helping to prevent unsightly algae blooms in your tank. With their peaceful temperament and herbivorous diet, Astrea snails pose no threat to corals or other tank inhabitants – they simply focus on cleaning surfaces as part of the aquarium’s natural cleanup crew. We offer them in convenient bulk packs (10, 25, 50, or 100 snails), allowing you to easily stock the right number for your aquarium’s needs. (Each snail is approximately ½–1″ in size when shipped.)
Proper Tank Conditions & Care
For long-term health, maintain stable saltwater conditions: temperature 72–78°F, pH 8.1–8.4, alkalinity 8–12 dKH, and specific gravity around 1.023–1.025. Adequate calcium and trace elements in the water support their shell growth, and an established aquarium with plenty of live rock provides ample surfaces for grazing. In most cases, natural algae in a mature tank is sufficient food, but if algae is ever scarce you can offer dried seaweed (nori) or algae pellets to supplement their diet. Note that Astrea Turbo Snails are not adept at climbing smooth glass walls; if one flips upside down, it may need help getting upright to avoid being stranded. As with all marine invertebrates, they also require good water quality – high nitrate levels can stress or harm them, and any copper in the water (from medications or other sources) is lethal to snails.
Acclimation & Live Arrival Guarantee
Proper acclimation is crucial for Astrea Turbo Snails due to their sensitivity to sudden water chemistry changes. We strongly recommend using a drip acclimation method to slowly adjust the snails to your tank’s conditions over 1–2 hours, minimizing any stress or shock. Every order comes with a detailed acclimation guide pamphlet to help you introduce your new snails safely. We also take extra care in packaging and shipping these snails and offer a live arrival guarantee for your peace of mind. In the unlikely event any snails arrive DOA (dead on arrival), simply contact us for a prompt refund or replacement – no need to return the deceased animal. With proper care and acclimation, Astrea Turbo Snails will settle in quickly and get to work as hardy, beneficial members of your reef aquarium’s cleanup crew.
